The name Lithonia is derived from the Greek work “lithos” meaning stone. Located near an outcropping of granite, Lithonia appears to be appropriately named. This vibrant community is home to scores of growing businesses and is a popular residential community for commuters. The city itself is situated off Highway 20, less than 30 minutes east of downtown Atlanta, the state’s capitol and economic hub. This luscious upscale community, brilliantly landscaped and manicured to perfection, makes for an extremely attractive place to call home. While Lithonia “proper” is home to a relatively small population of less than 3,000, nearly 50,000 residents are within the community’s “sphere of influence.” The city plays host to several regional festivals, fairs and art performances year round. This commuter city has an outstanding public transportation network and railways system, affording those who work near, but choose to live away from the hustle and bustle of a thriving metropolis an appealing alternative. The community predominately consists of single-family homes with over 85% of them being owner occupied. Residents take great pride in preserving the peace and tranquility throughout the community and its quaint neighborhoods.

A select few townhouses/ condominiums are also available and range in price from under $100,000 - $200,000. One- and two-story colonial homes and newer, more contemporary properties range in price from around $100,000 - $600,000 in neighborhoods such as Shirewick, Stonebridge Creek, Salem Hills, Great Oaks, Stonemill Manor and Belair Estates as well as Eagles Ridge and Meadow Brook Glen. Larger estates with uninterrupted views start around $650,000 and can go as high as $2 million or more depending on size, location and structure. These larger properties are mainly found in areas such as Hunt Valley, Greenridge, Smokerise Farms, and Sandstone Estates. Some historic properties are also available as is plots of land for custom building.
